I remember a couple of months back, a friend of mine who is engaged to business networking invited me to Rich Dad Poor Dad Seminar. I bewildered the title of the seminar. Rich Dad? Poor Dad? My friend told me that it will be conduct by Robert T Kiyosaki and added that the author is co-related with Donal Trump. Blah! I'm not excited. I just declined his invitation. Lately, just last week, I still remember the date - November 30, 2011; my office mate came in with a book. I arouse. I arouse when I see book(s). I checked, the name in the book was familiar. Aha! That Rich Poor Dad guy! Mark not his real name but a common name told me that the book will let me realize something. I was intrigued. The following day, I borrowed the book and read . . .

Book Review:

There is a difference between being poor and being broke. Broke is temporary. Poor is eternal.
- Robert T. Kiyosaki, Rich Dad Poor Dad, pg.5
The quoted text strike me as I read the first chapter of the book. Kiyosaki tell the story of Poor Dad and Rich Dad. And how people ended with fixated fate and why the same fate was like a wheel inherited by the next generation of poor, middle, and also including the rich class. I learned in the first or in the second chapter that 'don't let oneself work for money but the money should work for us'. It's amusing to learn his point but how? Well, that's where you need to borrow or buy the book to learn or realize how!

Kiyosaki also mentioned that people's lives are forever controlled by two emotions which is fear and greed. I say, can he include love because people are crazy when love comes. I'm just tripping, just skip this paragraph.

Finishing the first through the third chapter, the book made me think of a business that can generate money even if you are not physically there as his rich dad says that great opportunities are not seen with our eyes, they're seen with our mind. Sounds good right? Hmmm, yeah and I already made one and will just keep it to myself whatever it is.

Second thing that strikes me, relating to graduates with finished professional degree in college. Entering the world of work, that's the start that we mind other's business, not minding our own business. We start working with earned profession. That's working for others. The "others" who get the intelligent people to work for them. For them to get rich. TRUE.

The mid part of the book slow my excitement on reading it because I'm not versed with the subject as he was giving an example about doing money in Real Estate business. He also added his game thing called Robert Kiyosaki Cashflow. But lastly, the strategy in his example may apply to my field. And along chapters are about asset and liability. It will be too long to tackle about them and take the purpose of buying or borrowing the book.

Cashflow by Robert Kiyosaki also known as Rich Dad Poor Dad Game. Nah! Nice marketing.

My conclusion - it boost my financial IQ, a little. It slightly develop my financial literacy after inspired by his fruitful quotes. It's a mind opener to financial literacy. It actually take me to study money now than ever before (this is not overrated). The example may applied to your profession or it may not. And it's not a Google rumored Robert Kiyosaki Scam or Robert Kiyosaki Fraud. He's just showing an inspiration here not that he wants you to go for a Real Estate business. Buy the book if you were intrigued with my review and became interested.

Some of Robert Kiyosaki books I found in Amazon.com (looks interesting):

Book Review:

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
  • S. A. R. S. Outbreak (2002)

Salamat.

Book Review: Barriotic Punk ni Mes De Guzman

Pamalat Bungad

Likuran

Pamagat: Barriotic Punk - Mga Kuwento sa Baryo at Kanto
May-akda: Mes De Guzman (Ramon De Guzman)
Naglimbag: The University of the Philippines Press
Taon ng Pagkalimbag: Unang Limbag (2002), Pangalawang Limbag (2005)
Edisyon: U. P. Jubilee Student Edition
ISBN: 971-542-366-3

Salamat.

Hanggang sa Muli!

Book Review: The Best of This is a Crazy Planets (Good Reads)

Book Title: The Best of This is a Crazy Planets
Author: Lourd Ernest H. de Veyra
Language: English/Filipino
ISSN: 2011-1215-00
No. of Pages: 116
Publisher: Summit Media | Summit Books
Where to Buy: Available at National Bookstore
Price: 195.00 php.

I first learned of Lourd de Veyra from his video segment "The Word of the Lourd" of TV5 and from Radioactive Sago Project latterly. I became interested to his satire views, shrewd commentaries, sarcastic humor and an aura of his that would make you say "yeah, that's right Lourd!".

Learning that he released a new book, I anticipated to buy it.

Reading "The Best of This is a Crazy Planets" will not make yourself to be fed up with. It is something that you need to read more so that you'll be aware of your stupidity. Well, I actually realized that in some ways I'm stupid after reading the book. I feel kind of embarrassed, really, but I'm happy that I've learned not to do the don'ts. I asked myself "Why am I doing those things? I just realized why.", and that's because I'm a victim of a distorted culture. It's a book that is something I can relate to.

After reading his collection of essays, I've learned several do's and dont's. Like "Umasal Lang Ng Ayon Sa Ganda", "Words and Phrases A Real Man Must Never Use", "10 Stupid Expressions That Must Die Soon" and more intelligent humor.

Now I'm a fan. I'm now adding his blog @ Spot.ph to my feed reader :-)

101 Free Tech Books

I just checked my email today this morning and to my surprise I've won a free tech book of my choice by "101 Free Tech Books". I'm absorbing a lot of luck lately. First week of January 2011, I also won a free Microsoft .NET training by Microsoft Webspark Philippines through their Facebook fan page but I am having a doubt to confirm the veracity of that because the email exchange was halted i-don't-know why. Anyway, I'm going to blog about Microsoft Webspark Philippines if I still don't receive an update from them.

Here's the screenshot (and I'm exposing the 90 percent of my real identity only now):

The draw is every end of the month, if you won you'll choose one book from your wishlist and that's it - they'll ship it to you with no cost.

NOTE: This review is subject to change if I don't receive the book within this month. I also don't confirm the veracity of "101 Free Tech Books" similar to Microsoft Webspark Philippines. I need a proof first.

The Inferno by Dante Alighieri (Book Review)

Do you believe in hell? If you're going to ask me that what I'm going to say is I'm trying to believe, the same as I am trying to believe there was God. God and hell are connected. God created hell to homed his fallen angel Satan. Anyway that's not what my blog post about.

I bought a book from a local store. The book is "The Inferno" written by Dante Alighieri. It's a classic literature, a poetry, famed for its divine comedy, and it's not really my type genre at first but I'm satisfied after reading it. Ask me why I bought the book? I stumble upon to a video streaming site and found an animated film based from a game in Playstation Portable (PSP). For more details about the game titled "Dante's Inferno" for PSP, see product details below:

The animated film that I'm talking about is based from the game promoted above. I have no idea that it was based from the book not until I've watched the film. I realized this was Dante Alighieri's story of divine comedy after watching the film (i reminisced the literature subject, college days). And because of my amusement after watching the film, It drives me to search and research about the book. About the animated film, see details below:

I've been to a local bookstore, and found titles of Dante Alighieri's book with different publishers. I compared which of the publishers is better and with good analysis I find Signet Classics (Penguin Group) a good one. What I like about the book is that it has a notes in every end of cantos (chapter), the notes is a further comprehension of what the chapter is all about. You know, reading a poem with so in-depth meaning, so metaphorical, various mythical, and quite biblical is a pain. Thanks to the translator of the book John Ciardi, I find it easy to understand the meaning of every stanza in every cantos. Buy a copy at Amazon.com, see product below:

   The Inferno:

Reading "The Inferno" will let you foresaw the image of hell. "The Inferno" is a story of Dante's journey in hell with the company of Virgil. The Dante in the story is the same name of Dante Alighieri which is the author of the book. About his company Virgil (a roman poet) - he is kind of a consciousness of Dante. Dante's journey is like a snake & ladder game where he steps level-by-level where every level is called "Circle". Every circle has their specific purposes for sinners. If for example you committed a murder against someone then you'll be in "Circle VII: Round One" which you will take a spa of boiling blood. Every circle has their sub-levels with different punishment depending on the degree of your sin. And in some circles sub-levels has different names (refer to figure "The Classification of Sin in Lower Hell" below).

In the book, Dante's description of hell are blended with mythological characters mostly coming from Greek mythology. Greeks in the time of Dante Alighieri were pagans in the eyes of the Christians so it's natural to see a Minotaur, Charon, etc. in the book.

Dante wrote "The Inferno" comprehensively as if he went there. He even add an illustrations and maps. If you are reading books by heart, you will notice it, you'll notice Dante's vast imagination blended with faith to God. See the images below, sample illustration from the "The Inferno":

Hell - First Seven Circles
Reviewer's Note: "Familiarize the map. In case you go to hell you'll not miss directions."

The Classification of Sin in Lower Hell
Reviewer's Note: Check your sin here and see what punishment hell can offer to you.

Hell - Eighth Circle
Reviewer's Note: Sub-level of the previous Circle, it means you are near from the location of Satan.

Hell - Ninth Circle (Cocytus) - Satan
Reviewer's Note: This is Dante's description of Satan - three faces: with face of Judas Iscariot,  Brutus, and Cassius. The essential explanation about the three faced beast is that it is seen as perversions of the qualities of the Trinity according from the book.

Dante's journey doesn't end here because it is kind of trilogy thing. Dante Alighieri wrote three books, and "The Inferno" is just the first. The second would be followed by Purgatory and I need to read it in some time. And also I bet you know the last one - the heaven? No, the third is "Paradiso" the end part of the book.

So see you then in my next book review. ^_^
