Just a brief summary: this is a story of a painter with a failed relationship. He is offered to reside on another famous painter's house by his friend. Then he experiences strange things happening which led him to a shrine. He opens something which led to more strange happenings. A rich man from a far neighbor asks him to paint his portrait but later on, just to be found with a hidden agenda. As the story goes, he was riddled with an entity, a manifestation of Idea. But the strangeness doesn't stop there. He is driven to solve a clue from a painting of the owner's house, the painting - Killing Commendatore.

At some point in the story where Menshiki asks to be left alone on an unknown shrine, It triggers my claustrophobia or fear of being in a small space, like in a dark cave. Imagine being left alone in an isolated place, inside a deep pit, dark, the only exit is far and beyond your reach.

Killing Commendatore is like a haunted "Alice in the Wonderland" plus Dante's Inferno, and some mixtures of World War II history. When I said 'haunted', I don't mean a perfect horror story but Haruki Murakami writing "Killing Commendatore" is very promising, and he could be a good Horror storyteller if he decides to write one.

What I like: the manifestation of Idea, the Double Metaphor, and the genius design of this US edition hardcover by Chip Kidd

What I didn't like: like with Haruki Murakami's other titles, he's leaving some event of the story with no explanation, I observe it his style.

I'm rating this book: 3.8 / 5.0

Inilabas noong Septiyembre 13, 2019 ang mga bagong libro ni Segundo Matias, Jr., ang pangunahing aklat niyang Moymoy Lulumboy at dalawa pang librong pambata. Ang nasabing pangunahing aklat ay ang ika-6 na libro sa serye na pinagbibidahan ni Moymoy Lulumboy. Pinamagatan itong "Ang Ugat at ang Propesiya".

Tila naging tradisyon na ang paglabas ng bagong libro ni Moymoy Lulumboy tuwing ginaganap ang Manila International Book Fair tuwing Septiyembre ng bawat taon. Pero sa pagkakataong ito, sabay ring inilabas ng may-akda ang dalawa niya pang mga librong pambata: ito ay ang "Angelica: Ang Multo ng Balete Drive" at "Moñito: Ang Mabait na Demonyo".

Visprint Inc. Announces their Closure

It's sad news for all of us book readers. Visprint Inc., a Filipino Publishing house, known for publishing Bob Ong's books, Manix Abrera's comics, Trese, and a lot of popular titles; their company is closing down. They will continue to operate until or by the year 2021 and will sell their remaining stocks of books until supply lasts. Here's the official statement on their FB page:

They ventured into publishing books in the year 2001 where they're formerly known as Visual Print Enterprises (VPE). Their company was incorporated into VISPRINT, Inc. in the year 2009.

As of this writing, no particular reason was revealed on why they're closing down.
