A way back in the year 2017, just a few years ago, this book was a hit. As observed from book groups, many book readers like it! It reached a point where the price of this book was inflated by book resellers and the stock was depleted in most local bookstores here in the Philippines.

I bought this book just last year during a flash sale in Shopee (2019). I got it around 900 pesos (not bad), worth the wait skipping resellers selling it for a high price.

Mythology book by Edith Hamilton is not new. I'm already in my 30s but I haven't read it in full. I skimmed a Mythology book back in High School but never really finished it. But this 75th anniversary illustrated edition published by Black Dog & Leventhal makes a difference because of its wonderful illustrations compared to the other editions by several publishers.

This illustrated 75th is an eye-catcher for readers who don't have a knack for classic reads, and it's a gem for book collectors. A must-have!

Delving to the content of this book, the majority of the tales are Greek and Roman mythologies as they're familiarly the same (ex. Zeus = Jupiter, Aphrodite = Venus, etc.), and fewer tales on Norse myth. The author referenced her myth research from classical poets like Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, etc. It's a very good mythology reference book. It saves you time from reading history and poems to learn the mythical characters. But I still recommend you read poems she referenced with like the Iliad & Odyssey by Homer, and many others.

I'm rating this book: 4.0 / 5.0

You may not like the cruelty of some Gods, and the womanizing of Zeus. But It's worth a read and will catch your interest more with the beautiful illustrations.
