Reading "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" is not just a book about go-get-inspired with running. Not that the book explicitly says it's a guidebook about running or a sole sports genre but you'll get something from Haruki Murakami's experiences. He talks about life's lesson while on his journey with running and at the same time him being a novelist. A smooth read, you'll feel comfortable reading his honest experiences with running, his views, and his past life. You'll dig Haruki Murakami even if you're not a runner.
Also, I can relate to his experience as I also run on Marathon events particularly only half-mary (21k distance). The moment he trained for a run event but failed during one of his triathlons, that I can relate to. It makes us wonder, what did we do wrong? Is it an act of God? Or lack of training? His literary works often leave us with questions, with his non-fiction memoir book, he himself was left with questions too. Life is full of mystery as they say.
This is one of the non-fiction books I want to read and re-read. Reading this book gives me a flashback of my experiences too.
Reading a memoir genre like this book, I am encouraged to journal significant happenings in my life. It's nostalgic to reminisce our past and see how we end up in the current time. Maybe someday, out of the blue, a certain passion will be triggered, and I will end up something notable. Like in Haruki Murakami's life, a certain event triggered his passion for writing.
I'm rating this book: 4.0 / 5.0
Thanks!
